Criteria for eligibility

The applicants must:

  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons (visa students are not eligible). A minimum GPA of 3.2 is required for the scholarship. The applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.2 from September to April of the previous academic year.
  • Be a resident of Alberta. To be considered an Alberta resident, one of the following conditions must be met:
  • To begin post-secondary studies, one parent or legal guardian must have lived in Canada as a permanent resident for at least 12 months in a row. Alternatively, if the student last lived in Alberta for 12 months prior to commencing college or university.
  • Prior to attending college or university, the student’s spouse or partner lived in Alberta as a permanent resident for a full year.
  • To be eligible, students must be full-time in their second or subsequent year of an undergraduate or professional degree at a publicly financed post-secondary school in Alberta, and have satisfactory academic standing as determined by the college or university.

Students who have been nominated for a Jason Lang Scholarship during the same school year are not eligible for the Louise McKinney Scholarship.

Requirements for Louise McKinney Post-secondary Scholarship

To be eligible for this program, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person (visa students are not eligible) and reside in Alberta.

How to Apply: Application Process

Students studying outside of Alberta must provide an academic transcript, a letter from the registrar stating their class status in the top 2% of their previous year of study, and a completed application form by the applicant.

Your transcript must have your school’s or institution’s official signature or seal. This indicates that the material comes from your school or institution.

Copies that have been copied or faxed are not allowed. Students at a college or university must contact their colleges to obtain official transcripts.

The scholarship requires a minimum GPA of 3.2. The applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.2 from September to April of the previous academic year.
